What Was the Last Thing You Did for Play or Fun?
As a busy mom, finding time for play and fun often feels like a luxury. However, our family has a beloved tradition that brings us immense joy. It reminds us to slow down and savor life’s magical moments. Every year, we pack up and head to Branson, Missouri to ride the Polar Express with our youngest child.
This tradition is more than just a ride on a festive train; it’s a cherished experience that has become an integral part of our holiday season. From the moment we step aboard, the magic begins. The train is adorned with twinkling lights and holiday decorations, setting the perfect scene for the season. The sound of Christmas carols fills the air, the scent of hot chocolate wafts through the cabins, and the warm velvet seats invite us to settle in for the journey. Looking out the window, the sight of snow-dusted trees adds to the enchanting atmosphere, and the gentle sway of the train enhances the cozy experience.
One memory that stands out is the time our youngest hugged Santa tightly, whispering his Christmas wish with absolute sincerity. The joy on his face and the twinkle in Santa’s eye was a moment that melted my heart and reminded me of the magic of believing. It’s moments like these that make this tradition so special.
Reflecting on how this tradition has evolved, I remember when we started this journey years ago with our older children, who are now teenagers. Back then, they were just as awestruck as their younger sibling is today. Over time, the tradition has grown into a symbol of togetherness for our family, a way to connect despite our busy schedules. As a mom balancing work and responsibilities, these moments are a cherished reminder of why I prioritize family traditions. They allow us to pause and focus on what truly matters—making memories that will last a lifetime.
For us, the Polar Express is more than a family outing; it’s a chance to create lasting memories and to celebrate the magic of childhood. Each year, as the train chugs along the tracks, we are reminded of the importance of traditions and the happiness they bring to our lives.
